Exciting Ways to Get Around the System

So many people choose the college route. Going from high school directly to college and then onto a career. It is the norm in society at the moment. I am a firm believer in the fact that education is beneficial for the students that receive it. However, I believe people put too many eggs in one basket. Everyone has a college degree and the differentiation between one candidate to another is very slim. What if that communications degree doesn’t pan out? What if there is a recession and no jobs in a field that you got your degree in? What other skills do you have to survive?

Instead of relying completely on a college degree people should try to expand their horizons. Both my parents are prime examples of this. I will talk about my mother and what she has done to branch out in her life. While we were growing up, my parents bought many rental properties for passive income. Unfortunately, they got divorced but their empire remained, just fragmented. Unlike my father, my mother continued buying houses after the divorce increasing her footprint in Manchester. She works part-time at a concrete company, I think she does this job just to keep busy. Her real allocation of resources goes to the collecting of dividend paying stocks. These stocks are her houses and they pay dividends 12 glorious times a year. She does not have to do anything but sit and watch the checks come in.

On top that business, she also sells manure to people, runs a wood business and invests in the stock market. She probably makes more than the average Joe Schmoe working for the man their whole lives. She spreads herself, that way when shit hits the fan, she can still survive.

Her wood business is particularly profitable. She rented out the basement of the garage to some tree specialist, they drop off all the wood at the house for free. Usually they would have to pay to get rid of it. This makes their business more profitable and allows for a great return on equity when she splits and sells the wood. She hires some local kids to work the splitter. With her new splitter, she can split a cord in 20 minutes, if you have three guys. This business is very efficient and pays good dividends during the fall and winter months. She works part-time as an accountant/secretary, she runs a wood business, she owns rental properties, she invests in the stock market and she takes care of her farm. That sounds pretty enticing don’t you think?

Entrepreneurship is a great way to get around the system. She does not work for the man like everyone else. She makes and saves a penny here and there. When you do this for 40 years, the pennies start to add up. This is the type of philosophy that everyone should have in their back pocket. Spreading yourself a little bit will make a huge difference. Whether it be learning a trade, learning to invest in stocks, learning to be thrifty; it all adds up. When money comes your way, you need to know how to put it to work for you. This is what separates the rich from the middle class. “The poor work with their hands, the middle class work with their brains and the rich work with their money.

  1. Tony very nicely written, made me smile. Actually, we do a cord in 20 minutes with the new splitter. I Love my wood business. Wood Chucks Wood, Always Hard Always Ready
