As many of you know, I recently became a dad to a brand new son. There are a couple of parenting topics that have come up—perfect time to chat about them while we admire some baby photos.
On Burping:
Apparently, there’s a right way to burp a baby. I’ve been lovingly nagged about my technique more times than I can count. But here’s what I’ve discovered: just holding the baby upright for about five minutes—no patting, no back-thumping—results in just as many burps as all the traditional methods. Efficiency at its finest.
How to Put Your Baby to Sleep, the Chirico Way:
- Clean and feed the baby.
- Place him gently in the bassinet—even if he’s crying.
- Tiptoe quietly into the next room…
- Fire up your power tools and get to work. Woodworking, construction, vacuuming—any activity that makes loud, chaotic noise for hours.
Apparently, Charlie falls asleep best to the sound of a 5 HP vacuum cleaner paired with a 3-amp orbital sander. The hammer drill is a close second. White noise? Nah—this kid wants garage symphony.
Pro Tip: The baby carrier is a lifesaver when you need to keep the baby close while doing yard work.
Being a parent has been quite the adventure so far. Overall, Charlie’s doing great. It’s fascinating to experience this side of life—how we all start out so tiny and totally dependent, just needing someone to feed us, hold us, and fire up the vacuum cleaner so we can get some sleep.
Now for some photos:
