Failures with Adam

So my friend Adam came into town a few days back and I thought I should write a word or two about the experience. Despite many hiccups, that weekend was awesome.

Our first failure of the weekend was our sunrise hike. I worked Friday night from 10 pm to 3 am, so I told Adam I would come back and wake his ass up at 4 to hike Bear Peak for sunrise. I came back at 4 and I had some trouble getting him up and running. I was like an old lawnmower that refused to start… We ended up leaving for the mountain a bit late. I decided to start our hike on the eastern side of the mountain. What a mistake… That trail was terrible, especially for someone with unfamiliar lungs. He came from Connecticut a mire 500 feet in elevation. The air is a lot easier to breath down there.

So we missed the sunrise on Bear Peak, our first of many failures. However, the hike was beautiful. After a quick nap, we decided to tub down Boulder Creek. We went to Target grabbed some cheap tubs and went for it. The creek was closed. Mission failed.

The next mission we failed was El Dorado Canyon. As we pull into the park, it started to down pour on us. We knew it was supposed to but figured how crappy could it actually get? I mean Boulder literally pours for about 15 minutes and usually stops. This time was different though, we got poured on on and off for 4 hours. We wanted to do about a 12 mile loop in the beginning but that changed real quick. The canyon was well worth the 9 dollars that the government charged us. The trails were well groomed and the views were stunning.

However we got super cold after about 4 hours of hiking. Mission failed. We headed back on the same trail that we headed out on. A damn shame. Both of us were in a mild state of shock when we got back to the car. It took about 45 minutes of full throttle heat to get my bones warm. I was cold to the bone no doubt about that.

If we had gone through with the loop, I think we would have run into some trouble, some hypothermic trouble. It would have not been the best of situations. I had a really good journey despite the cold. I think the magical shrooms that I took shielded my true body temperature from my brain.

The next mission we failed was our sunrise hike up Sanitas. I got back from work and refused to wake Adam up. I slept on the couch till about 7 en la mañana. He was supposed to hop on a flight back home at about 11:30. So I thought we would give Sanitas a try, despite not waking up for the sunrise. We hike up about halfway and realized that we may not have enough time. Mission failed… We went back down and I drove Adam to the airport. Yet another failure… I even forgot to take a picture with him…

I have been away from home a little bit too long so Adam showing up was a nice surprise. Im happy another fellow from Connecticut can realize what they are missing out.
