A day in Boulder

I woke up at 8, put on my running gear and headed outside. I did a couple of stretches in front of the house before starting. I headed west toward the mountains. Within about 15 minutes I reached the trailhead.

I continued to run on and off up the trail until an old lady asked me why I didn’t have my mask. I told her that it would be uncomfortable to run in and that I was keeping my distance away from everyone else. She told me that I was ignorant and that I should be wearing a mask. I asked her why she was on such a crowded trail given her age. She did not like this comment. I did not mean to insult her but the Sanitas trail is very busy. She would increase her chances of exposure significantly by being on the trail. Especially, since very few people wear masks while hiking… I think I saw only a quarter of the hikers wearing masks and of those people, most of them took the mask off due to sweating.

She was about 75 year old, and I think that people above 65 should limit their exposure to others. They can die from this virus, I can’t. My Grandparents are quarantined in their house indefinitely. They know they are at risk, so they choose to stay away from people. That is the smart thing to do. I believe she should hike at a place like Batasso Preserve to avoid the foot traffic.

Anyway, I hiked all the way up Sanitas, once I got to the top, I ran down the other side. It was a good run and once I finished I had some sunny side up eggs for breakfast. My left knee was giving me some trouble. I think it is related to the fact that I’m running on old New Balances with no arch support. At least I hope it is. With summer coming, I can’t afford to be out a couple weeks due to an injury. There are so many mountains to climb!
